The First Activation of BLACKSEAFOR took place between
27 September-16 October 2001 with Turkey in command of the force.

The First Activation of BLACKSEAFOR included the activation ceremony, serialized training programs during the transits at sea and 2-day port visits in each BLACKSEAFOR nation.

The program consisted of Search and Rescue, Rescue and Assistance, Swept Channel, basic maneuvering and communication exercises during the transit periods and basic exercises, pre-sail and PXD conferences during the port visits.

The First Activation of BLACKSEAFOR lasted for 20 days, of which 10 days was scheduled training at sea and 10 days in port.
